Royal Tichelaar Makkum, the oldest company in the Netherlands (founded in 1594), has asked Hella Jongerius to produce designs using the craftsmanship of the hand-painters.
Jongerius took a depiction of a sailing ship she found in the factories old decor books and copied it onto a soup bowl. The same decor is spread over the nine matching soup cups as well as the ladle. Two versions are made; one with just a transfer and the other with the transfer and also hand painted inside.
