The specific properties of poly-urethan rubber inspired Hella Jongerius to create a collection of soft vases.
The flexible Soft Urn is an archetypal glass vessel form cast in polyurethane, which results in an object that has an antique and old appearance. A male-female mould without air-outlets causes for the imprisonment of a thousand bubbles which creates an unexpected peculiarity.
The process of production, with its attendant vagaries, is made apparent as scratches and bubbles in the material, and even the molding joints are left visible. In this way, the object communicates its complex and fascinating history to the user.

The Natural Soft Urn is made in 1994 and in 1999 the first Pink Soft Urn was developed for the ‘100 % Design-show’ in London.
