In 1997 Hella Jongerius received the Incentive Award from the Amsterdam Art Foundation for Industrial Design. Her winning design for a washbasin is an outstanding example of her working method and personal vision. She created form from formlessness by purely and simply exploiting the full potential of the material polyurethane. The oval shape is generated by gently pushing. The round basic shape inwards is ‘frozen’ and kept in shape by manipulating the thickness of the skin.

The flexibility of this washtub means that it is eminently suited for use in cramped spaces.
