While identical in structure, the three standing Blossom lights vary in colorful, expressive yet carefully balanced surfaces of anodized and painted aluminum. Instead of minimalist high-tech design, large archetypal forms inspired by blooms are used for the light elements.
The long, flexible wiring for the spots seem to be sewed with the tube, and contribute to Blossom’s informal appearance. For the base, Hella Jongerius has chosen unusual materials which are rarely used in light construction, such as leather, terra-cotta and felt. The small bronze switch perfectly embodies the synthesis between high-tech and hand-made characteristics.
Each light has three light elements with differing capacities, which are independently switchable, dimmable and able to be swiveled to impart directional light. The largest element provides indirect light, while the other two elements are perfectly suited for reading or accent lighting.
