Beads and Pieces is the outcome of Jongerius’ and Artecnica’s commitment to design, craft and humanitarian causes, as exemplified by the Design with Conscience campaign. The collection is handcrafted by skilled ceramicists from the surroundings of Lima, and embroidered with beads by artisans from a region of Peru typically dedicated to coca leaves plantation. The purpose of this project is to bring a sustainable alternative economic reality to the people of this dangerous and oppressed region.
What motivated Hella Jongerius and Artecnica in collaborating with Aid to Artisan in Peru, was the fact that they can work with the artisans, and they can show the world how beautiful and delicate their work can be.
