Somewhere in every home, there is a chipped and broken plate that exudes memories of Granny from the fine lines of its crazing glaze. Ultimately it is the damaged plate with its imperfections and idiosyncrasies that is treasured rather than the dazzling, pristine service. Hence, Hella Jongerius has consciously created irregularities in her porcelain-deformed dinner service that deviate from the ‘ideal’ form.
The B-service has acquired a unique identity. Because of the extremely high temperatures in the kiln, the bowls are not exactly round and each one is unique. This reveals something of the production process. The recipe for the porcelain and the glaze are stamped in the forms to illustrate the recipe culture in the world of ceramics.
It is a seven piece service: the required number – a bowl, a saucer, a large and small cup, a large and small plate and a water jug.
